Daniel Island Scouts

Cub Scout Pack 519

Cub Scouting is a fun, family-centered program for elementary-aged kids that focuses on character development, outdoor adventure, service, and building friendships. Scouts advance by completing “adventures” through games, activities, service projects, and time outdoors.

The program has three main components: den meetings (grouped by grade, typically once a month), pack meetings (all grades together, monthly on Monday evenings, 6:30–7:30 PM at the Church of the Holy Spirit), and campouts & outdoor activities (about 6 times per year). Participation is flexible — families can do as much or as little as works for them.

There is no fundraising requirement. Each rank corresponds to a grade level. Click on any rank below to learn more.

Arrow of Light

5th Grade

Arrow of Light is the highest rank in Cub Scouts and the only Cub Scout badge that can be worn on the Scouts BSA uniform. 5th graders complete their Cub Scout journey and prepare to cross over into a Scouts BSA troop. Scouts may join the Troop when they are 11 years old, or 10 years old and in 5th grade (on or after March 1), or have earned the Arrow of Light rank. 5th graders typically start the year in the Pack and transition to the Troop by the end of the school year.

Camping & Family Involvement

Cub Scouting is family-oriented, especially for younger Scouts. Parents stay with Cub Scouts for campouts and meetings, and many campouts welcome the entire family.

  • Campouts are offered about 6 times per year
  • Typically 1–2 nights on a weekend
  • Locations are generally within an hour’s drive
  • Many activities are family-friendly and not all are overnight

Parents do not pay membership fees unless serving in a leader role (den leader, committee member, etc.), but do pay activity or campout costs.
